Foods & NutritionWelcome to Foods! This is a year long course designed to introduce students to the foundations of food preparation and the impact of food choices and nutrition on one’s health. Safety and sanitation, basic food preparation skills, influences on food choices, the principles of nutrition/MyPlate, special dietary needs, meal management, and the optimum use of the food dollar will be explored through hands on food preparation experiences. Through foods labs, students will learn how to handle and prepare food safely using various techniques, methods, and types of food. Proper safety and sanitation guidelines will be followed in the lab.

Parenting & Child DevelopmentTo create an inviting learning environment that engages students’ creative thinking and interest in course content. Students will gain a strong foundation of knowledge through hands-on learning experiences, class discussions, and individual work. Relevant video clips, movies, and/or other technology integration will be incorporated into the course as valuable learning tools. Methods of instructional delivery may include: Reading for Understanding, Focused Lecture, Peer Teaching, Technology Enhanced Instruction, Collaborative Discussion, Cooperative Learning, Guest Speakers, Project Based Learning

Textile & DesignThe students will study concepts of textiles and clothing as they relate to the individual in today’s society. Students will investigate clothing and the effects it has on individuals. Students will recognize the association between physical characteristics and how clothing styles can minimize or enhance the overall appearance. This course will cover units in care and maintenance of articles of clothing. This course will also cover the importance of the consumers involvement of purchasing & picking out articles of clothing. Students are also given the opportunity to participate in hands on sewing and embroidery labs.

Interpersonal Relationshe class is designed to help students prepare for successful personal development, interpersonal relations with partners, family relationships, and community living. Emphasis is placed on developing self-esteem, personality traits, and communication skills needed towards a successful relationships. Students will also investigate the right career for one’s personality and explore changes of today’s family life with dual careers.

Exploring FCSToday's students are the future leaders and members of tomorrow's families, workplaces, and communities. They need to develop the social, emotional and character maturity to be able to act responsibly and productively to synthesize knowledge from multiple sources, to work cooperatively, and to apply the highest standards in all aspects of their lives.

Family and Consumer Sciences education empowers individuals and families throughout their lives to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society. The challenges individuals face throughout their lives include balancing personal, home, family and work lives; acquiring marketable skills to be successful in life management, employment, and career development; promoting optimal nutrition and wellness; and managing resources to meet the material needs of individuals and families. FCS is about preparing students for life, work and citizenship through the unique focus on the work of the family. These classes will give students "life skills" that they will use today and in the future as a member of a family and as an active participant in their community
